Structured. Solid. Yet, in continuous motion. This tension is the core of
my work.
In this state of dynamic stillness, my sculptures claim the space for themselves.
They are grounded and serene, as if they have always been there. They tend
to be compact volumes. I think of them as landmarks. Like a boulder on a
field, or a bridge, or a mountain… Imposing and strong, dominating
the landscape. The volume and the character of the
mountains of Rio de Janeiro were an initial source of inspiration to me.
Both the sculptures and the drawings come from a similar process. The architecture of lines
structure the whole and creates movement and tension within the work.
The human body is a very recognizable
structure. We are so familiar with it. Yet, it is capable of portraying a multitude of
ideas… The title of the series refers to the structural
aspect of the body. It's an investigation of composition that aims to
challenge the notion of the vertical biped.
